Isaiah 62 Prayer Letter - July 2020

Dear prayer partners,

“And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord.“ (Isaiah 66:23)

One thing that the Corona crisis caused around the world was a surge in prayer meetings like never before. This is greatly encouraging! During our own monthly Isaiah 62 prayer meetings, our weekly online Global Prayer Gatherings, and our recent Pentecost prayer marathon, many people testified that they have tangibly felt the presence of God during these meetings even though some took place in cyberspace.

This was especially so with our 13-hour prayer marathon on Shavuot in May, which revealed a real hunger for prayer as we were not able to provide enough time slots for various nations and prayer groups. We strongly felt God was leading us into a new level of prayer and seeking the Lord.

Many leaders in various nations urged us to repeat what we started on Shavuot, and we indeed felt God was leading us towards adding a new monthly prayer initiative online, at least until this year’s Feast of Tabernacles. So we launched a new global prayer chain, a Zoom-based wave of prayer encircling the earth every Rosh Chodesh (New Moon) over the upcoming months.

Our first one took place on 22-23 June, and we do hope many of you took part. For 24 hours, we sought the Lord in earnest prayer from locations around the globe. Prayers and intercession were offered in scores of countries in several dozen languages. The presence of God could be felt from start to finish. But some might ask, “why on Rosh Chodesh?”

Rosh Chodesh marks the new moon at the beginning of each month in the Hebrew calendar. It is a festival that was given to Israel on Mt Sinai. On that day (Numbers 28:11-15), special sacrifices would mark the beginning of the month. It was a day of joyous feasting characterised by the blast of a trumpet blown on the pinnacle of the Temple in Jerusalem to announce the arrival of the new month (Numbers 10:10). During the times of Israel’s kings, the people would come and consult the prophets on this day (2 Kings 4:23). And the prophet Isaiah declares a time will come when all humanity will come into the presence of God and worship Him (Isaiah 66:23).

It was in the midst of a national crisis when the prophet Joel cried out:
“Blow the trumpet in Zion, consecrate a fast, call a sacred assembly; Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children and nursing babes; Let the bridegroom go out from his chamber, and the bride from her dressing room. Let the priests, who minister to the Lord, weep between the porch and the altar; Let them say, “Spare Your people, O Lord …” (Joel 2:15–17, NKJV)

The days of Joel were much like our times today. While it was not a virus, Israel was struggling with a plague – locust. Four great swarms of locust went over the nation and the destruction not only caused an economic crisis, but it also impacted Temple worship. The lack of harvests caused a lack of offerings among the people of God, and if that were not enough the locust plagues were followed by raging fires which scorched much of the land. It was a time of a national emergency. In the midst of this time of shaking, the prophet Joel called upon the entire nation to “blow the trumpet in Zion”, which was a summons for everyone to begin to seek God.

In a similar manner, God has called us to ‘blow the trumpet’ from Jerusalem and call for special days of prayer and seeking the Lord. On the beginning of every month in the Hebrew calendar, or Rosh Chodesh, we want to call upon you to join us in prayer and seeking the Lord.

During the time of Joel, God promised He would answer by sending the former and the latter rains. He promised to pour out His Spirit upon all flesh! God promised a massive revival that would sweep through the whole population. Men or women, free or slaves, young or old, all would experience an infilling of the Holy Spirit.

On every Rosh Chodesh, we will pray for revival in the nations and for the promised outpouring of the Spirit of God upon Israel. We will pray for the healing of our nations and for the healing of families and individuals. We will entreat the Lord for a spiritual shift among the people of God, for a new hunger and dedication to Jesus. We will pray for a new spirit of prayer and for a new level holiness! We will pray that signs and wonders might be restored to His Church and that a new season of passion for God will come to us. We will pray that God will accelerate the restoration of Israel and that His Spirit will blow upon Israel from the four corners of the world. We will pray against the ongoing surge of antisemitism which is riding on the wave of the current pandemic.

If you sense this is what you desire for Israel, for your nation and your own life, then we would love for you to join the Rosh Chodesh prayer call!

This special prayer will not replace our regular Isaiah 62 prayers days on the first Wednesday of each month. The Isaiah 62 prayer campaign has been a great success for our ministry for an entire decade now, as we have thousands of individuals, prayer groups and churches worldwide who have made it a regular event in their devotional calendars. But this will give you another opportunity to join your faith and prayers with other believers who are sensing the need to draw closer to God in this unusual time we all find ourselves in.

Indeed, we truly appreciate all the faithful and fervent prayers you sow alongside us towards our Father in heaven!

Blessings from Jerusalem,

Dr Jürgen Bühler
