Isaiah 62 Prayer Letter - December 2020

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God...” (Philippians 4:6)

Dear prayer partners,

The year is fast coming to an end and as we reflect back on all that has happened in 2020, it will surely be remembered as the year when the world came to a standstill because of COVID-19.

Here at the ICEJ, we recognise that we have made it through this crisis so far only because of all the prayers which have undergirded our ministry, and we thank all our faithful prayer partners who have joined us every month for the Isaiah 62 Prayer Initiative, the Global Prayer Gatherings, and our other prayer efforts this year. Your prayers and intercessions have made a real difference.

As we pray over the prayer points below, may I first remind us that we are in a spiritual battle. As the Apostle Paul said: “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 6:12)

For this battle, we must put on the full armour of God. “Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;” (Ephesians 6:14-17)

We also must keep on praying and being watchful to the end: “praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.” (Ephesians 6:18)

Secondly, I want to encourage those who might be anxious over all that is happening around us. May the Lord deliver all of us from any fear arising out of the latest wave of the corona pandemic hitting many countries right now, from the natural disasters we have witnessed or experienced of late, and from the confusing political situations rocking the world. Paul urged that we: “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)

Remember we have access to the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords, the Almighty God! And we should bring all our requests to God in thanksgiving and He will give us peace which surpasses all understanding, because He also is the Prince of Peace! Indeed, we can trust that His ways are perfect.

When Jesus taught His disciples to pray the Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13), they prayed: “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven”. He also closed this prayer with, “for Yours is the Kingdom and power and glory forever.” You see, God is over all powers – even the powers of darkness. His Kingdom reigns and His will shall be done.

With these thoughts in mind, let us pray together this month with all sincerity, faith, patience and peace, knowing our foremost prayer is that God’s will be done on earth as He has decided it should be in heaven.

Shalom from Jerusalem!
