Turkey Vows ‘Retaliation’ for Arrest of Turkish Citizen
Turkish officials were vowing “retaliation” Monday following Israel’s arrest and indictment of Ebru Ozkan, a  27-year-old Turkish woman, on charges that she had smuggled money and other contraband to the Islamist terror militia Hamas while taking trips to Israel and the West Bank. “For genuine normalization of our relations, Israel should end its wrong policies and its inhumane cruelty. We are aware of their treatment towards some Turkish citizens. Lately, they extended the detention of our sister Ebru Ozkan,” Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Sunday. “They should not force us to take a step to counter it. We will not exert pressure on civilians but if Israel takes steps to deter our citizens from visiting Jerusalem, we will give a response to them. Our relations will only normalize once Israel ends these inhumane, wrong policies.”

The diplomatic tensions are increasing between the two countries as Reccep Tayyip Erdogan takes the next step in his political journey Monday by being sworn into a Presidency of Turkey which, following the recent elections in that country, has been transformed into what many analysts are calling a thinly veiled dictatorship.

Syrian Regime Accuses Israel of Striking Airbase
Media outlets associated with Syria’s Assad regime were reporting Monday that Israeli aircraft had struck the T-4 air base near Homs. The IDF had no comment on the reports. Meanwhile, a ceasefire negotiated by Russia brought fighting between the regime and rebel factions in the southwest to a halt over the weekend, with tens of thousands of refugees who had camped out near the Israeli and Jordanian border reportedly headed back to their homes.

Earthquakes Continue to Jolt Galilee Region
Several more minor earthquakes shook the Galilee Region of northern Israel over the weekend, prompting the government to announce an emergency meeting to assess the country’s preparedness for a major quake later this week. Several experts have warned that a large-scale quake is almost guaranteed to hit the country at some point in the coming years.

MKs Visit the Temple Mount
Taking advantage of a new policy allowing Members of Knesset to ascend the Temple Mount in Jerusalem’s Old City, MKs Yehuda Glick (Likud) Amir Ohana (Likud) and Shuli Moalem-Rafaeli (Bayit Yehudi) visited the site Monday morning, despite a torrent and angry statements from Palestinian Authority officials. Minister of Agriculture Uri Ariel (Bayit Yehudi) and Sharren Haskel (Likud) visited the site the day before.

Archeologists in Golan Heights Unearth Gates of Biblical City
The Golan Regional Council announced on Sunday that archaeologists have uncovered the entrance gate to the city which was called Zer in Old Testament times (mentioned in Joshua 19:35) but later became known as Bethsaida. “There are not many gates in this country from this period.” Said Dr. Rami Arav, director of the Bethsaida Project. The archeological excavations are located in the Jordan Park area, northeast of the Sea of Galilee, and are a major destination for Christian Pilgrims when they visit Israel.

“The staff at the Jordan Park and the Golan Tourism are happy for the tens of thousands of visitors who visit the park every day,” said Avi Lieberman, director of the Jordan Park. “The wonderful park is also an impressive archaeological site. I amazed each time by the arrival of thousands of evangelical visitors to Bethsaida. I am confident that the latest discoveries will bring more visitors to the park from around the world and from Israel.”

Reports Indicate Hamas Preparing for War with Israel
Israeli defense officials warned over the weekend that the Islamist terror militia Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, has recently increased the tempo of training exercises in a possible sign that it anticipates renewed conflict with Israel in the near future. IDF deployments to the border area have also increased in recent days.
